How this affects a run
Linking Cord replaces trade evolutions, including Haunter to Gengar, Kadabra to Alakazam, and Machoke to Machamp. It comes from the Great-tier item pool. An eligible evolution target still matters: selecting any unevolved party member does not make the item a universal evolution shortcut.
Several recipients retain an additional condition. Onix needs a Steel move; Clamperl needs the corresponding Deep Sea Tooth or Deep Sea Scale; Karrablast and Shelmet require the counterpart registered. Read the recipient-specific condition together with the item requirement. The Gengar page gives a short complete example, starting with Gastly’s level evolution and ending with the Linking Cord step.
