How this affects a run
Clowning Around offers choices with different permanent consequences. Battling means a double battle against Mr. Mime and a randomized Blacephalon; winning can let you exchange a party member’s ability for Blacephalon’s rolled ability. Read that ability before deciding whether the reward helps the team.
Remaining unprovoked instead replaces transferable non-berry items with equal-rarity random items, while returning the insults randomizes the party’s secondary types. Equal rarity does not mean an equivalent build effect. The ability reward can override abilities from later evolution or form changes in the reviewed rule, making this an encounter to assess by the exact option rather than a generic battle reward.
